style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heading North From The New York Depot<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can reach the southern tip of the region a little over four hours after leaving the Depot.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have a few options to choose from when selecting your campsite.\u00a0 The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/wps\/portal\/fsinternet\/cs\/recarea?ss=110920&amp;navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&amp;cid=FSE_003738&amp;navid=110240000000000&amp;pnavid=110000000000000&amp;recid=80781&amp;actid=29&amp;ttype=recarea&amp;pname=Finger%20Lakes%20National%20Forest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finger Lakes National Forest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, offers both paid sites ($15\/night) in three campgrounds (Backbone Horse, Blueberry Patch, and Potomac Group) as well as free, dispersed camping.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Places To Camp During Your Fingers Lake Road Trip<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My family opted to camp at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/parks.ny.gov\/parks\/watkinsglen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watkins Glen State Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> campground. While we frequently choose dispersed sites, we decided to treat our 5 and 7-year-old girls to some unexpected amenities: there are several large playgrounds, an in-ground pool, and bathroom and shower facilities available here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you stay at this campground or not, dedicating a day to exploring the trails at Watkins Glen is an absolute must.\u00a0 There are 19 waterfalls within the park, most along the popular Gorge Trail.\u00a0 This trail is a historic trail constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps after a flood in 1935, and it is a wonder of stone walkways, stairs and bridges.\u00a0 Wear sensible footwear and be prepared to get a bit wet\u2026as the trail will in fact take you directly <\/span><b>under<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> some of the waterfalls.\u00a0 Our girls were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twogoatsbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Goats Brewing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Burdett, NY.\u00a0 While we always make it a priority to find one or two local breweries on our travels \u2013 this one was such a hit.\u00a0 Just a tiny brewpub, but it boasts a <\/span><b>massive <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">view from a large, covered patio overlooking Seneca Lake.\u00a0 If you\u2019re hungry\u2026they serve one sandwich.\u00a0 Really!\u00a0 The Beef-on-Weck is a regional favorite with a somewhat ambiguous history\u2026the one thing that is certain is that it\u2019s delicious.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next day, we opted to explore some of the region\u2019s wineries \u2013 after all, the region was named the United States\u2019 top wine regions in 2018.\u00a0 There are more than 100 wineries to choose from, and from our experience, you can\u2019t go wrong.\u00a0 We enjoyed the opportunity to wander through the vineyard at Lakewood Vineyards in Watkins Glen, NY, and the quiet patio at Red Tail Ridge Winery in Penn Yan, activities in the area.\u00a0 The Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY, has hands-on, kids-approved activities and games that include scavenger hunts and I-Spy.\u00a0 The Ithaca Children\u2019s Garden is a 3-acre public children\u2019s garden featuring a story walk, troll house, and \u201canarchy zone.\u201d\u00a0 We chose to cool off on our last evening at Lakeside Park in Watkins Glen, which was a very large and very awesome public park ($5 parking fee for non-residents) with playgrounds, BBQ grills, a splash pad, and a swimming beach on Seneca Lake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to break up your trip on the way back to the Depot, you\u2019ll be passing through the Pocono Mountains, where several excellent hiking opportunities are available.\u00a0 Or for any fans of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Office<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, your route will also likely bring you through Scranton, Pennsylvania\u2026perhaps hit the Steamtown Mall on this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitnepa.org\/things-to-do\/tours-itineraries\/the-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">self-guided tour<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?!
