7-year-old girls, and through a lot of trial and error, we\u2019ve come up with some tried and true techniques and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/escapecampervans.com\/extras\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campervan supplies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure we all enjoy our trip together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Road Activities<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We put a storage cube bin in between the girls\u2019 car seats that they can both reach, fully stocked with their favorite on-the-road activities.\u00a0 For us, that includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">magnetic puzzles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">road-trip bingo\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">re-usable liquid chalk coloring books<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your family uses tablets, those can go in as well (with headphones, for everyone\u2019s sanity!)\u00a0 Remember to download movies and games for those times you will be without service.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snacks<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve had to ride any significant distance with small kids, you KNOW how incessant the demands for food from the backseat can be!\u00a0 To head that off, we pack each kid their own lunchbox full of snacks that they can ration out for themselves throughout the trip.\u00a0 Make sure they can open any of the packaging themselves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extra credit: put a small car trash bin in the back for them to dispose of their own wrappers.\u00a0 Containing all the trash that can build up over the course of a week can be really important when the van is essentially your living room!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playgrounds<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My husband and I joke that we could write a travel guide on every playground in the Northeast US.\u00a0 We usually plan a stop at one at about the halfway point of each day\u2019s leg of our trip.\u00a0 The girls get to stretch their legs, use outside voices, and get that pent-up energy out.\u00a0 Meanwhile, we use the time away from the windshield to do phone research on activities in the area, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Podcasts\/Audiobooks<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My husband and I love a true-crime podcast, but when the kids want to listen with us, there are so many great family-friendly options!\u00a0 We like the Story Pirates and But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audiobooks are also a win here \u2013 if you have a subscription to an audiobook provider or your local library, you can download a book for everyone to \u201cread\u201d together on the trip.\u00a0 If your kids are old enough, the Harry Potter audiobooks are a delight or mine both like the Boxcar Children and the Jack &amp; Annie style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let The Kids Help Plan The Trip!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My kids have so much more fun \u2013 and are much more invested in the trip \u2013 if we include them in the planning process.\u00a0 We\u2019ve learned not to just shepherd them around, but to ask their opinion on meals and give multiple options for activities, etc.\u00a0 We are generally rewarded with much more happy and compliant travelers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be Flexible \u2013 and Allow For DownTime<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While good planning is definitely a key to a successful road trip, we also try to allow for some free space and flexibility on each trip.\u00a0 Kids are just little, and sometimes \u2013 they\u2019re just not having it!\u00a0 Maybe they don\u2019t have any more miles left in them that day, maybe they suddenly don\u2019t like the food or activity you planned \u2026it\u2019s unpredictable, but also fairly inevitable.\u00a0 Having the flexibility in your schedule to pivot if necessary can give everyone the reset they need \u2013 and keep the peace in your van.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beauty of the campervan is that almost anywhere can be home for the night, or even for a few hours\u2019 reset.\u00a0 Pullover, let everyone take an afternoon nap in the cozy bed, fire off a snack in the kitchen and just take a breather.\u00a0 You\u2019re on vacation, after
