Aprile 6, 2023 4 Picnic-Perfect Viewpoints for Your Next Picnic in Washington

By Emily Butterfield

Enjoying a meal in far-flung, scenic locations is a big perk when you rent an Escape Campervan. Whether you’re heating water for a sunrise cup of jo or cooking a simple dinner under the stars, the van kitchen provides a quick and easy way to meal prep. And if you’re headed cross-country, there’s peace of mind in knowing you can pull over and have a picnic whenever you want. If you’re picking up your campervan from our Seattle campervan rental location, don’t miss these scenic viewpoints for your next picnic in Washington State.

Artist Point, Deming

Mt. Baker Highway, outside of Bellingham in northern Washington, curves through the evergreen forest along the Nooksack River, eventually ending at Artist Point. From the parking lot, you get expansive views of the glaciated North Cascades. There’s plenty of walking trails in the area too. Picture Lake is a perfect backdrop for lunch, especially if you can catch the reflection of Mt. Shuksan.

Five Mile Drive, Tacoma

Point Defiance Park in Tacoma is a beautiful place to stretch your legs on the trails and around the gardens. You can cruise around Five Mile Drive for stunning viewpoints of the Puget Sound and nearby islands. One of the best spots for a picnic is the Gig Harbor Viewpoint. Not only is there a picnic shelter, but below the bluffs you can watch seals swimming in the water.

Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center, Port Angeles

If you’re headed to Olympic National Park on your escape, don’t miss the winding drive up to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center. Some of the best views of the rugged and sprawling Olympic Mountains are right from the parking lot. There’s plenty of parking and places to enjoy a meal with mountains towering in the background. Afterward, head off on one of the many trails for a chance to see marmots, deer, and the nearby islands.

Kerry Park, Seattle

One of the most photographed viewpoints of Seattle, Kerry Park is a must-see place on any Emerald City visitor’s list (even locals flock to the tiny park for the views). It’s small with just a few benches and parking spots, but the panoramic views are outstanding. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Rainier in the distance and the famous Space Needle up close. It’s a perfect place to watch the sunset light up the Seattle skyline.
