The crowds and heat of summer are gone, the kids are busy with schoolwork, and the frigid winter has not yet arrived. Pair this with unbelievable changing colors it’s hard to find more compelling reasons to get out and explore during a fall road trip in a campervan, especially an Escape Campervan!
Step One: Pick Up A Camper Van
Pick up your Escape Campervan at either of our California, Orlando, Phoenix, or Las Vegas depots and take a fall road trip to some places where it is still warm during the day, but cooler at night. Picture yourself gazing at the sunset from your ocean-side campsite while waiting for the perfect set of waves, or hiking through boulders at Joshua Tree.
Or, if you are craving cooler temps, fall colors, or mountains, pick up your Escape camper van from either our Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, Seattle, or New York depots. Scenic byways, twisting mountain roads, and forests arrayed in the colors of autumn await you.
Step Two: Head Towards a National Park
A fall road trip is also a great way to see the National Parks without the crowds of summer. Just be sure to check closing dates because some roads, tours, and amenities may not be open year-round. Banff and Jasper have some year-round campgrounds and the fall shoulder season is a spectacular time to visit. Be aware that some roads require you to carry snow chains during certain months. You can rent all of the accessories you need from Escape.
Be prepared for wet weather and cooler temps, especially at night. Synthetic wicking layers, and some insulating layers of wool, fleece, or down work great. Don’t forget wool socks, a warm hat, gloves, neck buff, swimsuit (for the hot springs), and a rain jacket. Bring a warm sleeping bag, and an extra blanket if you have room.
Step Three: Let Escape Provide the Essentials for You
Even if you are not a seasoned camper, Escape campervans have everything you need for a fall road trip! Just rent the kitchen kit, camp chairs, and bedding kit, for a fully stocked camper van vacation. You can even opt for the winter bedding upgrade if you are heading somewhere really cold at night. Some other fall road trip essentials to bring along are a headlamp or flashlight, personal toiletries, a camp towel, and a water bottle.
Escape has even taken the guesswork out of where to go, by providing you with the Escape Plan Guidebook, a list of itineraries on their website, and the Escape Blog, full of inspiration to get you ready for your Escape fall road trip.
The hardest part is just deciding to give it a try. You deserve a break so go ahead, put in for the time off from work, find a pet sitter, or plan to bring Fido along.
