Escape Campervans’ new chapter has started: same mission, new company, different vans.
Here’s the full story.
The Escape Story
Escape Campervans launched in 2009 and spent the next 16 years turning first-time renters into lifelong road-trippers, with a fleet of hand-painted campervans and locations across the country.
In November 2025, the original Escape Campervans closed. Its fleet was sold at public auction, and the company wound down operations.
In 2026, Avanti Campervans, a family-owned campervan rental operator and outfitter, acquired the Escape Campervans name and trademark and relaunched Escape Campervans as a new company with a new fleet.
The new Escape Campervans is a separate company from the original Escape. But the idea behind Escape still has a place on the road today: making campervan adventures accessible, affordable and fun.
Why we brought Escape back
The original Escape vans may be gone, but the reason people loved traveling in them isn’t.
There’s something special about throwing a few things in a van, hitting the road and having the freedom to figure out the rest along the way. Escape helped make that kind of travel accessible to thousands of people, and we believed it was worth carrying forward.
When the opportunity came to give Escape a new chapter, we saw a chance to preserve what mattered most about the brand while evolving the experience for how people want to travel today.
That means comfortable, fuel-efficient vans that are easy to drive. Everything you need for the trip included. More pickup and drop-off options. The freedom to blend in, park easily and spend less on gas, so more of your budget can go toward the places you’re actually traveling to see.
The colorful vans were an unforgettable part of the original Escape. We’re not trying to recreate or replace them. We’re building on the idea behind them: making it easier and more affordable to get out there and go.
The next chapter of Escape. A different set of keys.
A new kind of Escape
If you rented with the original Escape, you probably remember the vans before you remember the name. The bold, hand-painted designs from independent artists were each rolling pieces of art.
Those vans belonged to the original company and were sold along with the rest of its fleet when it closed. They’re not part of the new Escape.
The new fleet takes a different approach: clean, unmarked minivan campers built for blending in rather than standing out. Our Voyager and Caravan models both seat four, sleep two and come fully equipped with a memory-foam bed, kitchen setup and everything you need to hit the road.
It’s a real change, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
But the new vans also solve some real challenges the old ones didn’t. They offer better fuel economy, they’re easy to drive and operate even for first-time campers, and they fit anywhere a normal car does, whether that’s a campground, city street or friend’s driveway.
The van may look different. The freedom to get out there and explore is still the whole point.
What's new
- Everything you need is included. Bedding, kitchen gear and camp essentials are always included at no extra charge.
- Newer, fuel-efficient vans. Voyager-class vans are late-model, reliable and comfortable to drive, with a practical setup for sleeping, cooking and life on the road.
- More places to start and finish. The new Escape includes campervan rental locations from Anchorage to Miami and points in between, including Boston, Denver, Salt Lake City, San Diego and Seattle, in addition to former Escape locations. More are coming in 2027, including Vancouver and Calgary.
- Easy airport pickup and drop-off. Vans are available for pickup a short shuttle ride from the terminal, with 24/7 pickup and drop-off options so you can land, grab your keys and go.
- More one-way possibilities. Plan a road trip without having to circle back to where you started, with one-way options to many major U.S. airports.
- More freedom to roam. Travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, with an easy-to-set-up option for travel into Mexico.
- Options for longer adventures. International travelers planning to explore for three months or more can also take advantage of van purchase options designed for non-U.S. residents.
What hasn't changed
- Our mission. To make campervan adventures easily accessible, affordable and fun throughout North America.
- A nationwide network. Escape continues to offer a broad network of campervan rental locations across the U.S., with extensive options for one-way trips.
- Personal customer service. You’ll still get help from real people who know van travel and understand what it’s like to plan a trip on the road.
- Plenty of help planning the adventure. Our website is packed with curated itineraries, destination inspiration and practical trip-planning information to help you figure out where to go next.
The new Escape isn’t about recreating the old company. It’s about carrying forward the part that mattered most: giving more people an affordable, approachable way to experience a great road trip.
